“Siller” Mixed Voice Choir – Finland
The choir traditionally holds a Christmas and a spring concert and they also take part in the St Martin’s day market. They have collaborated with several choirs in Estonia, including the Kanepi mixed choir and the EBS (Estonian Business School) chamber choir, with whom they have organised joint concerts in Helsinki and Tallinn.
This year, Siller is celebrating its 10th anniversary with several concerts. On 22nd February, the choir participated in a gala concert dedicated to the centenary of Estonian independence at the Alexander Theatre in Helsinki. This concert performance together with an orchestra and soloists gave members of Siller a unique opportunity to experience the joy of performing in an old established venue to a packed audience. On 7th April, the choir gave a joint spring concert with the Varbola ladies’ choir, Astra, and on the 22nd May, Siller will hold their jubilee concert (together with the Helsinki music studio hand bell ensemble). In September, the choir will be giving a joint concert with the Kalev chamber choir in the Alppila Church in Helsinki.
This spring, the choir is starting its preparations for the next national Song Festival in Estonia in 2019. The choir members had such a great experience at the last festival in 2014 that this time, the choir has decided to apply to take part in the select choir category. Apart from the national Song Festival, Siller also takes part in smaller song festivals in Estonia, including ‘Uma pido’ (Southern Estonian song festival) and the Tartu popular music choir song festival.
